New Food Documentaries and Travel Shows in 2026: Release Dates and Formats

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Last updated: September 4, 2026.

A new season, a newly available film and an older show resurfacing in your recommendations are different things. This guide checks release details and viewing formats for four 2026 food documentaries and travel series. Exact dates are tied to the territory or announcement that supports them, not presented as worldwide launches. For recommendations across release years, use our food documentaries guide by viewing interest. For fiction rather than reporting, go to our food movies guide.

We have not watched these titles for this article. What follows describes what the official pages document: format, length, platform and subject. This is a release guide, not a review. Confirm availability inside your local account before subscribing.

Choose the subject before the subscription

A restaurant opening points toward Being Gordon Ramsay; an Italian itinerary toward Tucci. For a food-industry investigation, inspect Big Chicken. For food and cultural history, inspect Tales. These are matches to the subjects described by the distributors, not rankings based on personal viewing.

Behind the pass: Being Gordon Ramsay

Netflix’s official page lists Being Gordon Ramsay as a 2026 release with six episodes. Netflix Tudum’s February release listing places it on February 18, 2026. It is filed under Food & Travel TV, Business Documentaries and Documentary Series. That middle label is the useful one: Netflix is not selling this as a cooking show. Its own synopsis has Ramsay juggling family life, a global empire and his biggest launch yet, and the launch is a multi-restaurant opening inside one London tower.

The opening is the practical distinction from a recipe demonstration: Netflix describes the work around Ramsay’s own restaurant business. Use that documented subject to decide whether the series matches your interest, rather than expecting cooking instruction from the familiar name.

Skip it if you want the food itself to be the subject. Netflix’s own genre labels tell you what you are getting.

The table abroad: Tucci in Italy, Season 2

Season two premiered on National Geographic on May 11, 2026, and all five episodes were added to Disney+ and Hulu the following day. Both Disney+ and National Geographic list the same five regions, one per episode: Naples and Campania, Sicily, Le Marche, Sardinia and Veneto. National Geographic frames the season around the connections between Italy’s land, its people and what they eat in each region.

The regional episode list gives you a practical starting point: choose a place you are visiting or curious about. Disney+’s guide supplies these release dates; regional catalogues may differ, particularly for Hulu access.

Choose it for a presenter-led regional travel subject. The official episode list is organised by place; that does not establish whether an episode includes conflict or investigation.

How the food gets made: Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy

Netflix Tudum’s July 31 release listing places Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy on August 5, 2026. That establishes the date on Netflix’s own release schedule; catalogue availability can still vary by territory. Netflix’s public listings show 98-99 minutes, so allow about an hour and forty minutes. Comedian Mo Gilligan presents; Mindhouse produced. The official synopsis describes an experiment eating fried chicken three times a day for 28 days, with travel from South London to the United States to investigate production, consumption, environmental and health questions, stereotypes and marketing.

It is also the only 2026 entry in Netflix’s own food-documentary guide, where every other recommendation is dated between 2014 and 2024 — a fact about that guide’s selection, not about everything Netflix released this year.

Skip this subject if you want cooking instruction rather than an investigation of the chicken industry. That distinction comes from the synopsis, not a judgment of the film’s tone or quality.

Food and cultural history: Tales

Disney+’s Costa Rica listing gives Tales a 2026 release year and one season, classified as History and Docuseries. Its synopsis connects food with culture and identity through historians, anthropologists, artisans and chefs. Listed participants include Mauro Colagreco, Wylie Dufresne, Jordi Roca and Niki Nakayama.

Choose this subject if you want cultural history rather than a restaurant-opening storyline. Check before committing if you need a specific runtime: this source does not provide enough detail to promise an episode length. It gives a year, not a precise release day, and a Costa Rica listing does not guarantee availability in your country.

Title Platform and date Shape Length as listed
Being Gordon Ramsay Netflix: February 18, 2026 Business documentary 6 episodes
Tucci in Italy S2 Nat Geo May 11, 2026; Disney+ and Hulu May 12 Food travel, one region per episode 5 episodes, self-contained
Big Chicken Netflix: August 5, 2026 Food-systems investigation Approximately 98-99 minutes, single film
Tales Disney+ Costa Rica listing: 2026 Food and cultural history One season; episode lengths not established here

Do not mistake an older announcement for a new release

Netflix’s dated Chef’s Table announcement places Legends on April 28, 2025, Noodles on October 2, 2024 and Volume 7 on November 27, 2024. Those particular releases are not new in 2026. That announcement does not establish that no later release exists. Likewise, the Somebody Feed Phil Media Center page we consulted describes season eight; it cannot settle the show’s future on every platform.

Two practical starting points

About 100 minutes tonight. Big Chicken is the single feature in this selection with a documented runtime that fits that window. That is a format match if its industry subject interests you, not a quality verdict. Check your regional Netflix catalogue before paying.

A series connected to an Italian trip. Start with Tucci’s regional episode list and choose a place on your itinerary. A Veneto episode is a more specific subject match for that trip than a restaurant opening in London. For cultural history without that itinerary constraint, inspect the local Tales listing.

How much time are you actually setting aside?

Episode count alone is not a time budget. Netflix lists the six Ramsay episodes as 51, 47, 46, 45, 38 and 42 minutes. Adding those displayed lengths gives 269 minutes, or four hours and 29 minutes. That is our arithmetic from the listing, not a stopwatch measurement or a claim about time saved by skipping credits.

For a two-night plan, the first three listed episodes total 144 minutes and the last three total 125. For three shorter sessions, consecutive pairs total 98, 91 and 80 minutes. Those are different commitments from assuming that six episodes means six hours. Allow extra time for breaks or any advertising in your plan; those totals include neither.

We have not applied that calculation to Tucci or Tales because the pages used for this comparison do not provide a complete set of runtimes. Five episodes and one season are useful format descriptions, but multiplying either by an assumed 30 or 60 minutes would invent precision. Open the episode list in your own app before deciding whether the series fits a weekend.

Read the release date with its territory

Use the date column to answer a narrow question: what release information does this particular source establish? Big Chicken‘s August 5 date comes from Netflix Tudum’s dated release listing. That is stronger evidence than an undated search snippet, but it still does not prove identical catalogue availability in every country. Tales’ Costa Rica page confirms a 2026 listing without resolving an exact launch day.

Tucci illustrates another distinction: the network premiere and the date all episodes became available to stream are separate entries, one day apart in Disney+’s account. If you are planning to watch the whole season, the streaming entry is the relevant one. If you are checking when it first aired on that network, use the premiere entry instead.

Finally, a public title page is a place to verify a programme, not proof that your existing subscription includes it. Before paying for another service, search the exact title and season while signed into your local account, then check the playback option and available languages. If the title is absent there, do not treat a working overseas link as a promise that it will play at home.

How we checked this

Sources were checked on September 3-4, 2026, as dated below. The Italian Netflix Media Center page was loaded in Chrome to confirm Big Chicken’s exact local release day. Screenshots document the information visible at capture time; they are not recordings of us watching the programmes. The Tales source is a Costa Rica listing and may redirect visitors elsewhere; it is not evidence of Italian availability. Availability and classifications vary by territory.

This is a checked selection, not a census. Our broader food-documentary guide already covers recent releases, including Tales and Spice Road season two. This page adds release and territory details rather than replacing that guide. We followed its PBS link for Spice Road, but could not retrieve the official page in this check, so we have not copied its premiere date into this table as newly verified.

The suggested starting points follow from documented subjects and formats, not personal viewing. Competition and restaurant-rescue shows are outside this selection’s scope.
